Slowinski Prepares Team - Success at 2007 Singapore Sports School International U18
In May 2007, Coach Slowinski prepared 6 bowlers with an intensive 8-day training program (lane play, release, lane play planning, psychology, fitness). The SSS U18 International is one of the most difficult tournaments in the world. Specifically, 90 of the best U18 bowlers from 9 countries in Asia competed in this challenging events which included squads bowled on 4 different surfaces (water-based wood, urethane-based wood, AMF synthetics, Brunswick synthetics) at the Singapore Sports School specialized training system. Many of these bowlers were on their national or junior national team and included a previous ABF (Asian Bowling Federation) Tour champion. The bowlers, ages 14 - 17, finished 8th, 17th, 18th, 28th, 33rd and 40th. For most, this was their first international competition. Slowinski's elite preparation had prepard them for success. 3 bowlers qualified for the Masters finals after 18 games of qualifying, over 3 days. The performance was equivalent to or better than the best national teams that were at the tournament. These qualifiers bowled another 12 games in the Masters finals for a 4 day total of 30 games. The consistent performance, from ALL 6 of those prepared, illustrates the quality of Slowinski's extensive elite training program.
SLOWINSKI SYSTEM IMPROVES MALAYSIAN YOUTH BOWLING SIGNIFICANTLY
At the end of 2006, the National Sports Council of Malaysia and the Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Federation began implementing Slowinski's training program for U18 bowlers in the Sukan Teras Elite Youth Development Program. This program includes 1750 bowlers, nationwide, who train 3 days per week, 2 hours per day, for a total of 6 hours of systematic instruction by certified coaches. The Slowinski system includes a 40 week, week-by-week structured instructional program, skill building drill sequences and advanced lane play and release development. As a measure of the quality of Slowinski's structured program, here are the improvements in the junior circuit qualifiers in 2007 as compared to 2006. Specifically, here is an analysis of pre-Slowinski program and the beginning of the full implementation of the Slowinski program nationwide. Most of the circuit bowlers, more than 95%, train under the Slowinski system. The U16 boys include the top 48 bowlers after 8 games of qualifying. The U16 girls include the top 28 bowlers after 8 games of qualifying. The Open Boys includes the Top 20 after 8 games of qualifying. The Open Girls includes the Top 16 after 8 games of qualifying. As the data reveals, in the first year of implementation, all categories of bowlers in the country had improved significantly.
Slowinski's System Contributes to the Improvement of the Country's Elite Youth Bowlers by 10 Pins on Average at the 2007 National Youth Roll-Off
Bowlers in the Sukan Teras elite youth development program have been training under Slowinski's system for the past year. How effective is it? Recently, most of bowlers who tried-out for the Malaysian national team back-up squads were from this program. An analysis of the results show Slowinski's program is very effective. Specifically, the average for the Top 20 boys increased nearly ten pins, from 193.7 (2006) to 203 (2007) and the deviation of scores for boys dropped from 5.3 to 3.9 illustrating more consistency. On the girls side, the average of the Top 9 girls went-up nearly 5 pins, from 187.8 to 192.4. These results come on the heels of a tremendous outing in the Malaysian Schools Championships in which Sukan Teras bowlers earned nearly 100% of the medals and broke four records (U18 boys singles, U18 girls singles, U15 girls singles and all events). The bowler reference system and elite youth development training program builds champions! In one year, the system has improved scoring and consistency. 11 of the 24 bowlers earning a spot into the National Youth squad are graduates of Slowinski's annual Super Camp. Super Camp graduates won 7 of 8 youth events immediately following the camp including the 2006 Milo All-Star International U15 girls Masters. Below are additional successes of those who completed the camp in November 2006.
